Synopsis
Prince Tamino is sent to rescue Pamina, daughter of the Queen of the Night, from the priest Sarastro. Guided by magic instruments and the bird-catcher Papageno, he undergoes trials of wisdom and virtue. Mozart's Singspiel blends fairy tale, Masonic symbolism, and sublime music from the Queen's stratospheric arias to Papageno's earthy charm.
